Cerritos adopts strategic plan to enhance public safety, economic development

CERRITOS – The City of Cerritos has adopted a new Strategic Plan aimed at bolstering public safety, strengthening economic development, and improving technology resources, among other long-term initiatives.
Approved by the Cerritos City Council on Dec. 12, the plan sets forth eight key goals to guide the city's efforts in enhancing services for residents, businesses, and municipal staff.
“The City of Cerritos extends its appreciation to our public affairs consultancy firm Tripepi Smith in facilitating the Strategic Planning process and to the community and staff for their participation,” said Mayor Naresh Solanki. “This plan represents the City’s commitment to ensuring a strong community in which to live, work, and grow for years to come.”
Community Engagement Shapes Priorities
The strategic planning process was informed by a series of community engagement sessions, conducted by Tripepi Smith, which included meetings with the City Council, municipal staff, and community stakeholders. Two in-person community forums were held, and residents and staff also had the opportunity to share feedback via an online questionnaire.
“We’re excited to begin implementing the goals of our new Strategic Plan and are thankful for the engagement we received during this process from our residents, staff, and business community,” said Cerritos City Manager Robert A. Lopez. “With the City Council’s approval of this plan, we have prioritized strategies to enhance our local economy, infrastructure, and workforce while maintaining our high standards and service to our community.”
Strategic Plan Goals
The eight overarching goals of the new Cerritos Strategic Plan include:
Enhance Public Safety – Strengthening law enforcement and emergency response capabilities.
Attract and Retain a High-Skilled Workforce – Investing in personnel development to sustain quality municipal services.
Assess and Maintain Infrastructure – Ensuring roads, public facilities, and utilities are well-maintained.
Strengthen Economic Development – Supporting local businesses and fostering new investment opportunities.
Improve Technology Resources – Enhancing digital services and infrastructure for city operations and community use.
Focus on Fiscal Transparency and Sustainability – Strengthening financial accountability and budget management.
Improve Community Communications – Expanding public engagement and accessibility of city information.
Ensure Continued Excellence in Recreation and Community Programming – Maintaining high-quality parks, recreation, and cultural programs.
Implementation and Updates
